"Prayer of Forgiveness"
[Spoken Word]
“Forgiveness
is the fragrance the violet sheds
on the heel that
has crushed it.”
—Author Unknown
Reverend Mark Rohrbaugh of Morningside Church
delivered the prayer below during one of the church's Jazz Vespers concerts. It served as introduction to "I'm Old Fashioned,"
a jazz standard. With the John Scott Trio performing, there's
always zest in our musical celebrations.
Despite the song title, forgiveness applies to any age. We are all
equipped to forgive others. We gain healing from unconditional forgiveness. I try to remember the freedom that comes from
forgiving anyone who has ever disappointed me. I also want the lightheartedness that comes from forgiving myself.
On the matter of forgiveness, Rev. Rohrbaugh prays from Colossians
3:13-14. May you be blessed by this message.
…remember
the Lord forgave you,
so
you must forgive others.
The
most important piece of clothing
you
must wear is love.
Love
is what binds us all together
in
perfect harmony.

"I'm Old Fashioned" was
composed by Jerome Kern. (1942)
