"I Run"
[Contemporary Gospel]
The zesty “I Run” has
plenty of attitude in its declaration to “run straight to the Lord.” This musical pronouncement was written by
Gwen Cathey, a dear Morningside Church friend.
Gwen's lyrics inspired my thoughts
about the direction we seek in times of challenge. That is, receiving direction can be both navigational
and instructional. We want to know where to go, and we want to know whether it's safe go.
Anyone can tell us how far to go or when to make a turn. Only a trusted, informed guide like God can direct us on location
and timing. So, we don’t meander toward
prayer; we move with a sense of urgency. We run, if necessary.
–Cheryl Farrell
Verse 1
There is a special rule
of thumb for me
I never stray from
my strategy
I will not walk
out of my house alone
Always have to
take my God along
Whenever trouble
starts to chasing me
I don’t profess
any bravery
You’ll never
see me fighting one on one
I just turn to
God and I run…
